Hot briquetted iron for sale

Why does the sale of briquetted iron have more economic justification for exporting despite its higher than sponge iron price? We analyze this below.

Sponge iron is a porous product. Porous pellets in the dimensions of 9 to 25 mm in which due to the high percentage of porosity in it, the oxidation process is likely to occur.

In fact, the most important problem in transporting and storing sponge iron for the consumer plant is the possibility of oxidation of this product if exposed to moisture and heat. Ignition is also likely. This can be dangerous if the product volume is high.

The oxidized sponge iron product has a very low melting efficiency that is not even usable in induction furnaces, especially small induction furnaces. But perhaps in arc furnaces or large induction furnaces it can be used to control carbon content rather than melting. In fact, oxidized sponge iron has no value in melting and receiving steel, and if the product does not apply during transportation and oxidation occurs during shipping or storage, the buyer actually loses.

Production of hot briquetted iron

The production of iron briquette is precisely aimed at correcting the disadvantages that exist for the sponge iron product, namely its oxidation and flammability. In fact, briquetting is a simple process on the end product of sponge iron which reduces the probability of oxidation process by increasing the density of this product and decreasing its porosity.

The briquetting process itself is classified according to the conditions considered for the process, for example the temperature of the briquetting process or the material and the charge input of the briquetting process into several categories. This category will be addressed in the next section of the article.

hot briquetted iron (hbi) has no problem with oxidation. It can therefore be transported by bulk vessels without any packaging, just like iron ore. So it doesn’t have the extra costs like packing and shipping costs will be much lower.

Iron briquette price

As mentioned at the beginning of the article, iron briquette price is higher than the cost of sponge iron due to the cost of the briquetting process on the sponge iron product.

However, the exact determination of the iron briquette price is based on its type, quality and analysis. We have three types of sponge iron briquettes that we will introduce below. We will also announce the analysis of any type of sponge iron briquettes offered by Azerbaijan’s Simorgh Steel Industrial and Mining Complex. We will also announce the slight difference in the price of the sponge iron briquette for these three variants by comparing the latest price range for each.

Sponge iron briquette is produced in three types:

  • hot briquetted iron (hbi)
  • cold briquetted iron
  • Briquetted sponge iron fines

The main charging material used is the first two types of sponge iron briquette, sponge iron. But in terms of process temperature, these two types of briquettes are produced in different conditions.

Hot briquetted iron

In hot briquetted iron (hbi) production, the briquetting inlet charging temperature is high and is about 650 ° C. 650 ° C is exactly the temperature of the sponge iron output from the direct resuscitation unit. Briquetted sponge iron fines

The main charge on the input of the briquetted sponge iron fines production line is sponge iron fines, not sponge iron itself. What is sponge iron fins?

In fact, the process of producing sponge iron in a direct reduction unit, a percentage of sponge iron produced in the form of sponge iron fines under the screen and in the form of dust as a direct reduction plant waste is removed. Sponge iron fins have a percentage of broken sponge iron and a percentage of fines and dirt. As you can see, the percentage of metallic iron in both products is over 70%. Therefore, both of these products are available in briquetted sponge iron fines production line.

Hot briquetted iron hbi price

In terms of the price of sponge iron briquette and the price of sponge iron, we can compare prices below.

As you can see from this comparison, Hot briquetted iron hbi price is the highest value. The sponge iron briquette production line is available in all three types of hot briquetted iron (hbi), cold briquetted iron sponge (cbsi) and briquetted sponge iron fines in Iran.

It can be said that out of 100% hot briquetted iron (hbi) produced in our country, 90% of it is exported directly to different countries. So it can be said that only ten percent of it, and even less, goes to domestic consumption. Of course, the production of cold briquetted iron sponge (cbsi) is also done in high tonnage in our country. Consumption of cold briquetted iron sponge (cbsi) and briquetted sponge iron fines is higher in domestic steel mills.

In the domestic market, given the limited volume of sponge iron purchased by steel mills due to their consumption needs and shorter shipping distance, the sale of sponge iron may have more economic justification than buying briquette iron. Of course, some of the positive features of the sponge iron briquette and its higher efficiency in the smelting process lead some steelmakers to buy sponge iron briquette despite the higher price.

One of the important advantages of sponge iron briquette compared to sponge iron itself is its higher mixing ability than scrap metal in the smelting process. This will ultimately increase the cost-effectiveness of steel due to the high price of scrap metal. This has spurred the sale of sponge iron briquettes in the domestic market.

Sponge iron briquette is used for both types of electric arc furnace and induction furnace.
